How strict should the match be?

How the ingredient matcher works

The matcher runs in your browser against 179 complete dinner recipes stored with MealThinker. It does not invent a recipe or send your ingredient list to an outside service.

1

Add specific ingredient names

Type foods separated by commas or new lines, or browse the categorized ingredient list. The tool normalizes simple plurals and preparation words without making broad substitutions.

2

Compare full ingredient lists

Every result is checked against the recipe’s complete authored ingredient list, not a short set of headline ingredients.

3

See the gaps before choosing

Matched and missing lines remain visible, and every result includes the complete ingredients and directions before any signup prompt.

Pantry-only means every named recipe ingredient matched an ingredient name you entered, apart from disclosed staples you chose to assume. It does not mean you have enough of each item.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this recipe finder use AI?
No. It deterministically compares your ingredient names with MealThinker’s static catalog of 179 authored dinner recipes. It makes no LLM or external recipe call.
Can I search with only one ingredient?
Yes. Results will be broader and usually show more missing ingredients. Add specific items from your fridge or pantry to improve the matches.
Why does a result show ingredients I do not have?
Best matches intentionally show the closest recipes and list the gaps. Choose “Use only what I have” to require zero missing named ingredients, apart from any disclosed staples you choose to assume.
Does the use-first option check whether food is safe?
No. It only moves recipes using that ingredient higher in the results. Check freshness, storage history, package guidance, and official food-safety advice before cooking.
